The Web is going to get a lot more interesting...
The 3D Web will arrive sooner than I expected! WebGL is making remarkable advances. The screenshot below shows you a teapot object embedded in a web page. The teapot is interactive through drag and drop motions. The page loads in under 2 seconds and does not require extra addins other than a development version of current browsers. (I was using Safari.) Pretty neat eh? Virtual World snippets could be embedded in Web sites. Interactive 3D can make virtual stores for retail sites. While this may not seem like a very substantial difference, what it will effect greatly is the information density that can be quickly comprehended and filtered. In a large store there are easy graphical cues to help shoppers navigate and select products quickly. They will be more readily represented in 3D.
